Australian Survivor: Heroes Vs Villains is returning in January 2023, and now, Network Ten has confirmed the first tribe mates to be hitting the beach for the series, in Brains Vs Brawn winner Hayley Leake and runner up, George Mladenov, aka King George of Bankstown.
Leake will be on the Heroes tribe (of course) while Mladenov will be on the Villains tribe (of course).
Notably, Heroes Vs Villains will mark the return of Australian Survivor to Samoa, where the first season of Australian Survivor was filmed back in 2016. It will be the first season filmed overseas since Australian Survivor: All Stars, before the COVID pandemic slammed international borders shut. The past two seasons, Brains Vs Brawn and Blood Vs Water, were both filmed in outback Queensland.
In a new trailer, host Jonathan LaPaglia promised that “the beautiful beaches will see Heroes and Villains battle it out in gruelling challenges to come out on top”, and we can’t wait!
According to LaPaglia, this season will pose the ultimate question: “In the game of Survivor, who does it better – the hero or the villain?”

One former contestant confirmed to be making a return is Nina Twine, who was forced to bow out while competing in the Blood Vs Water season, after she fractured her ankle in a challenge.
At the time of her exit, LaPaglia said, “I have a feeling this is not gonna be the last time we’re gonna see you on Australian Survivor,” and now, Twine will be competing on Heroes Vs Villains as… a Hero???
Notably, Twine is the daughter of Survivor all-star Sandra Diaz-Twine, who is one of the series’ most iconic Villains, so much so that she won the US Survivor Heroes Vs Villains season back in 2010, which made her the first two-time winner of Survivor in the show’s history.
The Heroes Vs Villains cast will shake things up from the original US format, though — rather than featuring all-returning players, the cast will be comprised of half returning players, half new competitors.
Ten will be announcing two cast members a night during The Challenge Australia, which is airing on Mondays and Tuesdays every week at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 Play on Demand. Australian Survivor alum Brooke Jowett and Johnny Eastoe are currently competing on The Challenge Australia.
