Think Almost Famous meets A Star is Born to the soundtrack of Fleetwood Mac.
Here’s everything we know about the series so far:
What Is Daisy Jones & The Six About?
Written by Taylor Jenkins-Reid and first published in 2019, the best-selling Daisy Jones & The Six tells the story of a fictional rock band from their heyday in the 1970s and the many highs and lows that follow throughout the following decades.
Loosely based on the legendary tales of Fleetwood Mac, the book includes romances and break-ups between band members, hedonistic partying and struggles with substance abuse, as well as a front-row seat to life inside one of the greatest (fictional) bands on earth.
The series will also deliver an original soundtrack, with 25 songs being performed by the actors. According to producer Scott Neustadter, a strict no-dubbing policy, meaning every performance you see on screen is the result of a real take.
To perfect the sound of the era, Neustadter worked with producer Blake Mills in bringing the songs to life, who previously worked with Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.
Speaking of the songs to Vanity Fair, Neustadter said the soundtrack, “sounds vibrant. It sounds kind of fresh and doesn’t sound like play-acting.”
How Many Episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six Will There Be?
According to Amazon Prime, the book has been adapted into ten episodes and will be a limited series with no further seasons or episodes.
Who Stars in Daisy Jones & The Six?
The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six is a bumper one, with Riley Keogh taking on the lead role of Daisy, while Sam Clafin is set to play the Six’s leading man, Billy Dunne.
Other members of The Six include Suki Waterhouse, Camila Morrone, Sebastian Chacon, Josh Whitehouse and Will Harrison.
Timothy Olyphant is set to play the band’s manager, while Nabiyah Be will play Daisy’s best friend and fellow musician, Simone Jackson.
In addition to working on some seriously impressive 70s shag hairdos, all of the cast were required to sing and perform with their respective instruments.
For Keogh, who is the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, this meant hours of singing lessons in the leadup to filming to ensure her vocals were up to scratch.
“I sounded so bad that I started crying,” Keough told Vanity Fair of her early performances. “I was like, ‘I can’t do it,’ and when I can’t do something it lights a fire in me to be able to do it. I was like, ‘I have to do it.’ I’m gonna go to this vocal coach, and he’s gonna teach me how to f–king belt, whatever I need to do to get this. It really became about pushing myself to do things I’ve never done before.”
Clafin also honed his skills online, reportedly learning guitar via Zoom lessons each night after putting his kids to bed.
Despite the challenges, Keogh says the processing was overall a hugely fulfilling one.
“It was a joyous experience. And it was something I really needed in my life at that time. I wanted to make something that made me feel joy.”
Where Was Daisy Jones & The Six Filmed?
Shot throughout Los Angeles and wider parts of California, filming for Daisy Jones & The Six suffered major setbacks and delays when COVID-19 hit and the state entered lockdown and faced ongoing restrictions.
Thankfully, though, the essence of LA in the 1970s was able to be captured across areas like Laurel Canyon and the Sunset Strip. Think A Star is Born thrown back in time.
