Luxury hotel brand Six Senses is set to unveil its first-ever property in Italy and first hotel in a city, Six Senses Rome. Opening next week in a spot just five minutes’ walk from Trevi Fountain and the Parthenon, the hotel features 96 rooms and suites, a spa with a modern take on Roman bathing and two eateries, one on the ground floor and another on the rooftop.

“After almost three decades away from my hometown, it is a joy to be back to lead such an incredible project,” says Francesca Tozzi, General Manager of Six Senses Rome. “It makes my team and I feel very proud to open the first urban Six Senses property in Italy. We are working hard so our guests can experience memorable stays in an authentic, fun and quirky ambience.”

The hotel blends classical elements with the contemporary, thanks to architect Patricia Urquiola. Travertine local stone is featured throughout, restored 600-year-old columns sit in the main entrance and some rooms showcase Triclinium-style marble seating on their terraces.

On the modern side, the hotel is rich in plants that help to bring the outdoors in, and is also equipped with state-of-the-art tech, including the brand’s Sleep With Six Senses homemade, organic mattresses.

“An incredible 15th-century building has been brought back to life again and returned to the city, after a sophisticated refurbishment following a philologic approach which respected the several layers of history while adding a soft modern touch,” says Corrado Trabacchi, Partner and Investment Director of Orion Capital Managers.

Guests can dine at all-day, ground-floor restaurant BIVIUM or on rooftop eatery NOTOS. The menu includes a Roman Empire-inspired five-course tasting menu, as well as plant-based dishes and sweet classics with Sicilian touches. True to Six Senses’ sustainability focus, the menu makes use of natural and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and suppliers.

The on-site spa also taps into the building’s roots with a 60-minute Roman bathing circuit, a modern-day take on the ancient ritual that promises to reduce inflammation and help muscle recovery by heating the body up and then cooling it down. The circuit not only works to balance the mind and body, but also to provide a social setting for guests to enjoy with their travel companions or fellow spa users.

Treatments ranging from facials to massages are performed using products from Biologique Recherche, Seed to Skin, Organic Pharmacy and Subtle Energy. Biohacking, sound therapy, body cocoons and breathwork are also offered. Other highlights include the healing herbal Hammam and sensory immersions at the Alchemy Bar.

Six Senses Room opens on Thursday, March 16.
